Good afternoon Jeffreys Grove families –
This is Lisa Cruz with your weekly message. A copy of this message can be found on our school website.
Parents of carpool riders, we need your help. It is very important to have all of our students on campus and in their classrooms before the tardy bell rings at 9:05. Morning announcements and instruction begins promptly and students need a couple of minutes prior to the bell to unpack and settle in for the day. Please make every effort to have your child here at school prior to the tardy bell. Our carpool supervisors will leave the carpool area as soon as the bell rings, in order to get to their other duties. If you are running late in the morning, you will now see a large sign instructing you to please walk your child into the office and sign him or her in. This is for safety reasons, as there is no carpool supervision after 9:05. In addition, we ask that you refrain from checking your child out of school early, if at all possible, We realize that there are some times when doctor’s appointments, etc. cannot be scheduled at any other time. Whenever possible, please allow your child to complete his/her instructional day in school. We really appreciate your help with this!
There are a couple of noteworthy days next week. Next Thursday, October 29 marks the end of the first quarter. My how time has flown! There is a teacher workday and no school for students on Friday, October 30 so that teachers may work on report cards. Report cards will be sent home on Thursday, November 5.
We have an accumulating pile of coats, lunch boxes, sweaters, etc. in our lost and found. We have spread all of the items out onto two tables next to the cafeteria and teachers are making a point to take their classes by the tables to try to match unclaimed items with their owners. As winter is approaching, it is helpful to have your child’s name written on the inside of their coats and jackets. That way we can quickly get them back to students if they have been misplaced. If your child has lost an item, please remind them to check the tables. Next Wednesday, all unclaimed lost and found items will be donated to a nearby goodwill or mission.
As you may be aware, the cold and flu season is upon us. We have several students out with a variety of viruses as well. If your child has a fever, please keep them home from school. The health department policy that we follow dictates that students should be kept out of school until he or she is fever free (without fever reducing medications) for 24 hours. The single most important thing we can do to help stop the spread of germs is to encourage frequent hand washing. Teachers are helping in this effort. If you would like further information about the flu, there is information available in our front office and on our website.
Each year the Salvation Army assists a number of families who need extra help during the holidays. A Christmas registration begins on October 26 and runs until October 31 at the old Southern States Nissan building on Wake Forest Road. If you are interested and need further information about this program, please contact our front office.
We are looking for a few parent volunteers who would be willing to help us on the serving line in the cafeteria. Detailed information will be sent home in Monday folders. If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity, please contact our Assistant Principal, Ms. Lofton.
Lastly, we have become aware that a computer glitch at Scholastic Books last weekend caused the accounts of people who made purchases at our Scholastic Book Fair using their credit or debit cards to be charged twice. This computer glitch affected not only Jeffreys Grove, but also other schools served by Scholastic. Scholastic is aware of the situation, is very apologetic, and is rectifying it. They have assured us that the accounts will be credited by the end of this week. If you purchased books at the book fair using your credit or debit card and your extra charge has not been credited, please call Scholastic at 1-800-874-4809 ext. 8295. In addition, you are certainly welcome to contact our PTA presidents, Tracey Zeiss at 846-3770 or Rene Beavans at 848-9073. We regret any hardship this has caused and expect Scholastic to rectify it this week. A copy of the letter sent to the PTA by Scholastic is attached to this text on our website. Thank you so much for your continued support of Jeffreys Grove!
Thanks for listening and have a great weekend!
